Next Generation Internet: The Open Call of the NGI TALER Project on the Future of Electronic Payments

THE DEADLINE TO PARTICIPATE: The NGI TALER Open Call is set for June 1, 2024

As part of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative of the European Commission, the NGI TALER Project has launched the “Privacy-preserving Digital Payments” Call with a deadline for participation set at 1 June 2024.

NGI TALER: is a pilot project financed by the European Commission and the Swiss Confederation with the aim of launching a new electronic payment system for the benefit of everyone: citizens, traders, banks, financial authorities, auditors and anti-corruption researchers.

EACH PROJECT PROPOSAL ELIGIBLE FOR FUNDING: may receive a contribution between €5,000 and €50,000.

The results of the funded projects will be made available under a free or open source license.

There are no exclusions on the subjects who will be able to receive NGI TALER support: if on the one hand priority will be given to proposals coming from European Union countries or associated countries, on the other hand the technical quality of the proposals will be considered, in addition to the geographical criterion .

Until May 31, 2024, it is possible to submit your applications to the MASTER cascade call that finances projects that develop XR-based teaching material and that want to bring their technology closer to the market.

 THE CALL WILL FINANCE PROJECT PROPOSALS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

1. SAFETY AND ERGONOMY IN WORKPLACE: The overall approach to achieving this is to leverage the latest advances in XR technologies to enable the creation of safe workplaces and help apprentices learn how manufacturing operations should be performed in safe way:

• Integrating machine learning methods to XR tools towards accurate layout planning and validation,

• XR-based environment for ergonomics training methods to evaluate and best practices suggestion,

• Real-time visualization of safety-related information in XR environment to increase operators' safety awareness,

• Open challenge related to improved working conditions in the workplace;


2. INTUITIVE ROBOT PROGRAMMING: This domain aims to leverage the capabilities that XR technologies offer to teach robots new skills, with automatically generated program code in the background:

• XR-based system to program on demand tasks to stationary robots;

• XR-based programming of mobile robots for intralogistics operations;

• Intuitive XR-based robot programming for assembly and packaging tasks;

• Any challenge related to Intuitive robot programming of manufacturing operations;


3. USER-FRIENDLY HRI METHODS: XR technology can help augment scenes with otherwise invisible information, but it also presents its challenges. This theme aims to address the challenges in creating interfaces with high usability and good user experience:

• Interaction systems in multi-player virtual environments;

• Advanced multi-modal (ie voice, gesture, gaze) interaction system;

• Interactive system to unlock accessibility capabilities in the XR environment;

• Open challenge related to user-friendly HRI methods in the workplace.

GRANTS FOR PROJECTS TO COUNTER VIOLENCE: On women and minors and support victims

As part of the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values ​​(CERV) programme, the 2024 tender for the prevention and fight against gender violence and violence against minors has been published, expiring on 29 May 2024.

》》》》》》》》》THE NOTICE > MAKES 24.8 MILLION EUROS AVAILABLE TO FINANCE PROJECTS > RELEVANT TO THE FOLLOWING PRIORITIES:

1. Large-scale and long-term transnational actions to combat gender-based violence (resources allocated: €11,000,000)

This priority aims to foster the development of large-scale integrated actions to combat gender-based violence and achieve long-term, structural changes with broad geographical coverage, in line with the Gender Equality Strategy. We intend to support transnational projects focused on one of the following fields of intervention:

Domestic violence: increasing awareness and access to support services for victims; Strengthen responses to domestic violence (including for witnesses of violence) through capacity-building and multidisciplinary cooperation and coordination between relevant actors.

Harmful practices: fight against female genital mutilation, forced abortion and sterilization, early and forced marriages, “honor violence” and other harmful practices against women and girls.

Violence in the online environment: combating gender-based online violence, such as online stalking, non-consensual image sharing, extortion using sexual images (“sextortion”), sexual harassment and online bullying or gender, enticement.

Violence and harassment in the world of work: fight against violence and physical and psychological harassment, offline and online, in work contexts, in particular by preventing such behaviours, encouraging the development and implementation of corrective measures and support mechanisms for victims, as well as the development of relevant tools, guidance, education and training.

Gender stereotypes: Prevention of gender-based violence by addressing gender prejudices and stereotypes, particularly those related to masculinity, norms, attitudes and behaviors that encourage or minimize violence.


2. Targeted actions for the protection and support of victims and survivors of gender violence (resources allocated: €4,800,000)

We intend to support national and transnational projects (the latter are particularly encouraged) focused on:

Targeted protection and support for groups at high risk of violence, including addressing under-reporting.

Targeted support for victims of sexual violence.

Promotion of multidisciplinary cooperation, including online, between relevant professionals.

Support through national telephone lines (helplines) dedicated to victims of violence.


3. Targeted actions for the prevention of gender violence in the domestic sphere, in intimate relationships and online, also through actions with those responsible for the violence (resources allocated: €5,000,000)

National and transnational projects will be supported (the latter are particularly encouraged) to prevent violence through:

The development of domestic violence prevention tools that help recognize and address early signs of violence, including less visible forms of violence such as coercive control and psychological violence.

The development of measures to prevent violence in intimate relationships, which promote equal relationships, counteract stereotypes and provide tools for resolving conflicts peacefully.

Measures for the prevention of gender violence in the online environment.

Prevention programs for perpetrators of violence.


4. Targeted actions through integrated child protection systems (resources allocated: €4,000,000)

The aim in this area is to contribute to systemic changes in the prevention, protection and support of children in cases of violence through integrated child protection systems. In particular, national and transnational projects will be supported (the latter are particularly encouraged) which contribute to preventing and combating two forms of violence against minors in particular:

sexual harassment and violence, especially when they occur in the formal and informal educational context, in recreational, cultural, sporting activities or in any other community activity;

bullying, online and offline, in particular at school or in recreational activities, and which affects minors with specific vulnerabilities (e.g. minors with disabilities, Roma minors, minors with a migrant background), or linked to their religion, gender or sexual orientation.


PROJECTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY: a consortium made up of at least two entities (lead applicant + 1 partner). If the project is transnational, they must be established in two different eligible countries.

THE LEAD APPLICANT: must be a non-profit organisation. For-profit organizations can participate only in partnership with public bodies, private non-profit organizations or international organizations.

The involvement of a public authority in the project, including regional and local authorities, is strongly encouraged. For projects related to gender-based violence, public authorities may be national, regional or local ministries/agencies/equality bodies responsible for gender equality and/or the provision of services to victims of violence, police, judicial, health or educational, where appropriate.

THE PROPOSED PROJECTS MUST HAVE: a duration of between 12 and 36 months if relating to priority 1, or between 12 and 24 months if relating to priorities 2, 3, 4

THE EU CONTRIBUTION: can cover up to 90% of the eligible costs of the project. The requested grant must be between €1,000,000 and €2,500,000 for projects relating to priority 1, and between €100,000 and €1,000,000 for projects relating to priorities 2, 3, 4.

THE NOTICE: in the framework of the VI round of calls for proposals for Digital Europe, it concerns the specific Objective 2, which aims to strengthen the EU's capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), as a crucial driver for the digital transformation of public and private sectors. The EU data strategy, which highlighted the importance of building a thriving ecosystem of private actors to generate economic and social value from data, announced that the Commission will invest in a High Impact Project that will finance infrastructure, data sharing tools , architectures and governance mechanisms for data sharing, artificial intelligence ecosystems and the next generation of Cloud and Edge Services.

QUESTO TOPIC CONTRIBUIRÀ ALL’EFFICACE ATTUAZIONE DEL PROGETTO MULTI-PAESE SULL’INFRASTRUTTURA E SUI SERVIZI DI DATI COMUNI EUROPEI: con particolare attenzione al settore della mobilità e dei trasporti. Contribuirà all’ulteriore sviluppo dello spazio comune europeo dei dati sulla mobilità (EMDS), che faciliterà l’accesso, la condivisione e il riutilizzo dei dati nei settori della mobilità e della logistica. Promuoverà l’adozione su larga scala dell’infrastruttura dati comune sui trasporti e la mobilità.

TIPOLOGIA DI SOVVENZIONE: Sovvenzioni per supporto finanziario: tasso di finanziamento del 100% dei costi ammissibili per il consorzio; cofinanziamento del 50% dei costi ammissibili da parte del terzo sostenuto.

QTHESE TWO TOPICS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO PRESERVING CULTURAL LANGUAGE DIVERSITY IN EUROPE by: implementing the objectives of the common European data infrastructure and the MCP service in the field of language technologies. By providing the necessary data and model adaptation capabilities, the topics will have a strong impact on the diffusion of large language-based models and their applications such as generative AI. This federative effort will be established around two strands of work.

LLANGUAGE 0: will support the collection of linguistic data and the adaptation of existing linguistic core models to specific languages, sectors or sectors, so as to support the incorporation of the latest linguistic technologies by European actors.

4. MAKING AVAILABLE A HIGH PERFORMANCE OPEN SOURCE EUROPEAN FOUNDATION MODEL FOR TUNING - ID: DIGITAL-2024-AI-06-FINETUNE

THE TOPIC AIMS TO PROPOSE AND MAKE AVAILABLE: a large open-source language foundation model as an infrastructure designed to be used largely by public or private users, in particular by European SMEs, for further fine-tuning. It will support the development of an existing European foundation model and release it under an open license to maximize the impact on European industry.

Unlike existing open source foundation models, all components of this model that benefit from this action will be made available, such as appropriately anonymized training datasets, algorithms and model weights.

To take into account security concerns, the model and its components will be licensed to European players who meet the necessary conditions by a European entity (to be selected), established in the EU and not controlled by a third country. Possible entities could be the AI-on-Demand platform, a possible future EDIC or something else proposed by the consortium.

Given the breadth of the manufacturing sector, the topic focuses on data spaces that address supply chain management. 

PROPOSALS MUST CONCERNING ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TWO CASES:

 • DATA-DRIVEN MODELS: for supply chain management and the role of data sharing in risk mitigation response, such as shortages of early warning predictive material.

• MANUFACTURING DATA SPACES THAT USE DATA: to drive the transition to a greener and more circular economy with greater business opportunities for value-added industrial services.

The goal is also to reduce time to market and promote the development of new AI-based healthcare products and services that improve patient safety and well-being, while preserving privacy and security.
