NEXT GENERATION INTERNET: OPEN CALL OF THE NGI TALER PROJECT ON THE FUTURE OF ELECTRONIC PAYMENTS
》》》THE DEADLINE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NGI TALER OPEN CALL ON ELECTRONIC PAYMENT INNOVATION IS SET FOR 1 APRIL 2024
WITHIN THE NEXT GENERATION INTERNET INITIATIVE (NGI) OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION: the NGI TALER Project has launched the first Call.
NGI TALER IS A PILOT PROJECT FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION AND THE SWISS CONFEDERATION WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF LAUNCHING A NEW ELECTRONIC PAYMENT SYSTEM FOR THE BENEFIT OF EVERYONE: citizens, traders, banks, financial authorities, auditors and anti-corruption researchers.
EACH PROJECT PROPOSAL > ADMITTED FOR FUNDING WILL BE ABLE TO RECEIVE A CONTRIBUTION BETWEEN €5,000 AND €50,000.
THE RESULTS OF THE FUNDED PROJECTS: will be made available under a free or open source license, ensuring reuse, repair rights and interoperability.
THERE ARE NO CATEGORICAL EXCLUSIONS ON THE ENTITIES WHO MAY RECEIVE SUPPORT FROM NGI TALER: if on the one hand priority will be given to proposals coming from European Union or Associated Countries, on the other hand the technical quality of the proposals will be considered, in addition to the criterion geographical.

WHAT IT DOES DEAL WITH:
THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION NEXT GENERATION INTERNET INITIATIVE: aims to shape the development and evolution of the Internet, towards an internet of trust: a safer, more open and useful experience for its users. In fact, it responds to the challenge of preserving and improving the internet and its functions, making it resilient and adaptive to user needs, while respecting European values.
ON THIS PATH TOWARDS THE INTERNET OF THE FUTURE > INCREASINGLY PEOPLE-CENTERED > THE EUROPEAN UNION INTENDS: to incorporate its values and standards for openness, transparency, privacy protection, cooperation and data protection in the proposal for the internet of the future, as expressed by the European Declaration on digital rights and principles (privacy protection, user control and choice, inclusion and decentralisation) - and as indicated in the Declaration for the future of the Internet (open, free, global, interoperable, reliable and secure).
NGI: Contributes to the development and adoption of digital commons in the Internet technology sector.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MAIN TECHNOLOGICAL ELEMENTS FOR TOMORROW'S INTERNET > TOWARDS AN ECOSYSTEM OF INTEROPERABLE PLATFORMS: it will allow users to choose from a range of open-source decentralized solutions.
FOLLOWING AN INITIAL INVESTMENT IN THE TWO-YEAR PERIOD 2018-2020 > SUPPORTING MORE THAN 1,000 iINTERNET RESEARCHERS AND INNOVATORS IN HUNDREDS OF PROJECTS: the European Union has renewed funding for the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, from Horizon Europe.
NGI > PROVIDES FINANCING FOR AN ECOSYSTEM TO INNOVATORS WITH THE MOST PROMISING PROJECT IDEAS: it is divided into specific actions that contribute to the logic and general vision of the initiative, also offering tutoring and support to the innovators' path, starting from development of the innovative idea.
THE PLANNED ACTIONS ARE:
NGI RRESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTIONS: in the period 2022-2027. 20% of the budget is dedicated to selection, monitoring, tutoring, training and community building, while 80% is dedicated to financing individual projects between individuals and/or third-party organizations (cascade funding)
NGI PILOT - INNOVATION ACTIONS: in the period 2024-2027. In these actions, open calls will be proposed to finance third parties
NGI COORDINATION SUPPORT ACTIONS: which guarantee synergies between all stakeholders with particular attention to: Awareness raising activities, community creation, business acceleration

THE NGI INITIATIVE IS MAINLY SUPPORTED BY THE HORIZON EUROPE PROGRAM under Pillar, Cluster 4 - Digital, industry and space.
NGI > FINANCES PROJECTS COVERING ALL LEVELS OF THE INTERNET: from open hardware, to network and transport technologies, to firmware, operating systems and virtualization, to electronic identities and middleware, to decentralized ledgers, to productivity tools from software, to traffic supervision tools, to over-the-top Internet and vertical applications.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
THE RECIPIENTS OF NGI PROJECTS ARE: Pioneering researchers, developers, small and medium-sized high-tech enterprises and startups > specified from time to time in the notices.
AMOUNT OF FINANCING
NGI RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTIONS: CIRCA 80 MILIONI.
