THE EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY (ESA) HAS PUBLISHED THE “ICT & ELECTRONIC DEVICES SUSTAINABILITY” NOTICE

THE NOTICE AIMS TO CO-FINANCE AND GIVE SUPPORT TO COMPANIES THAT INTEND TO DEVELOP THE BUSINESS CASE OF A PROJECT AND DEVELOP SPACE SERVICES AND PRODUCTS RELATED BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING RELEVANT TOPICS:

• Structural Integrity, disposal and recycling of batteries

• Export and Management of electronic waste (e-waste)

• Environmental Effects of Data Centers and Blockchain-based Solutions

THE PURPOSE IS TO IMPROVE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE ICT and ELECTRONIC SECTOR (ELECTRIC MOBILITY - BATTERIES - ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS - ELECTRONIC WASTE) THROUGH SOLUTIONS, SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS THAT WORK AT ANY MOMENT OF THE LIFE CYCLE OF A PRODUCT OR ON THE CONSUMPTION OF ENERGY SOURCES BORROWED BY SPACE TECHNOLOGIES TOOLS SUCH AS:

• Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)

• Satellite Telecommunications (Satcom)

• Satellite Earth Observation (EO)

PROPOSALS MUST OFFER:

• Attractive market opportunities, identified customer needs and customer engagement

• Commercially viable service concepts

• Technically feasible solutions

• Added value of data or space technology

• Motivated teams with business, technical and financial expertise

THE NOTICE AIMS TO SELECT ONLY ONE COORDINATION AND SUPPORT PROJECT (CSA): in order to provide Financial Support to Third Parties, i.e. Projects Funded by the EIC Pathfinder or EIC Transition paths.

THE SELECTED CSA PROPOSAL WILL IMPLEMENT AN ALWAYS-OPEN CALL FOR EIC PATHFINDER OR EIC TRANSITION CANDIDATES FOR BOOSTER GRANTS: inviting them to submit a Grant Request Proposal which will be evaluated by a team of experts.

SELECTED ASPIRING CANDIDATES (EIC WINNERS such as Technology Transfer Offices, inventors and others): will receive from the CSA action an EIC Booster grant in the form of a lump sum grant not exceeding €50,000, as well as a support service.

A MAXIMUM OF 3 EIC BOOSTER GRANTS: can be awarded to each EIC Pathfinder project, for a total ceiling of €150,000, while only one grant can go to each EIC Transition candidate proposal.

THE INITIATIVE AIMS TO SCALE OR REPLICATE PROJECTS IN URBAN - PERI-URBAN AND RURAL AREAS > FOCUSING ON FOUR THEMATIC AXES OF THE NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS > I.E.:

CHALLENGE 1: RECONNECTING WITH NATURE: Supports green, sustainable mobility projects and nature-based solutions;

• INCREASE - AMPLIFIE OR CONSOLIDATE THE IMPACT OF THE PROJECT: in the same position with a more holistic approach;

• INCREASE – AMPLIFIE OR CONSOLIDATE THE IMPACT OF THE PROJECT: beyond the previous location into a new area (e.g. neighbourhood/district/city/city/region, etc.) by replicating/transferring activities.

NEB PARTNERS FROM THE EIT COMMUNITY CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CALL: who have implemented Connect NEB and Co-Create NEB projects during 2022 and 2023 and have not yet been awarded from the previous edition of the Enhance NEB Call launched in 2023.

PROJECTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY A CONSORTIUM: of a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 4 entities, of which at least one must be a city, a region or an entity affiliated to a city or region by EIT Community NEB partners or a new city, region or affiliated entity (not from the EIT NEB Community). Entities established in the UK are also eligible.

THE TOTAL BUDGET IS €320,000 - OR €40,000 FOR EACH PROJECT.

INNOVATION FUND 2023 AUCTION 

Opened within the Hydrogen Bank, the Innovation Fund Auction is the first of its kind in Europe.


The aim of the auction is to support the production of renewable hydrogen. The bidders (project developers) will have a budget of 800 million euros at their disposal. Bids from project promoters can be submitted until 8 February 2024.

NEXT GENERATION INTERNET: TWO NEW OPEN CALLS PUBLISHED: in the NGI OpenWebSearch.eu Project 

THE DEADLINE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TWO OPEN CALLS OF NGI OpenWebSearch.eu > IS SET FOR BOTH AT 4 APRIL 2024

UNDER THE GENERATION INTERNET INITIATIVE (NGI): the second and third NGI Open Calls have been launched OpenWebSearch.eu > Project which aims to build and test a foundation for commercially exploitable applications based on a European Open Web Index.

OPEN CALL #2 “Applications of an Open Web Index” is open to the submission of ideas on how to use and exploit the Data provided by the Open Web Index in innovative use cases or research scenarios.

THE SELECTED APPLICATIONS: can request a loan of between 50,000 and 100,000 euros, for a financing period of up to 12 months.

 THE OPEN CALL #2 THE NOTICE IS ADDRESSED TO: small businesses (Small and Medium Enterprises - Start-ups) - Individual Innovators, Individual Researchers or Research Groups (for example: Doctoral or Post-Doctoral Researchers) of Renowned universities.

SELECTED APPLICATIONS MAY REQUEST: Financing between 100,000 and 150,000 Euros, for a financing period of up to 12 months.

OPEN CALL #3 IS TARGET FOR: Universities, public infrastructure providers, data centers, enterprises (e.g. cloud providers) or research groups with an established infrastructure.

SUSTAINABLE TRANSITION: C4T GROUNDWORK CALL FOR EXPERTS OPEN

THE CALL AIMS TO MOBILIZE EXTERNAL EXPERTS: who can contribute their expertise to assist regions and Member States in achieving sustainable transitions

Cohesion4Transitions (C4T) GROUNDWORK: has opened Applications until 1 April 2024 to select external experts to provide technical assistance in line with the environmental objectives of the Project.

C4T GROUNDWORK: is a technical assistance tool provided by the C4T Community of Practice to support sustainable transition in regions, cities and local communities. 

LACALL FOR EXPERTS AIMS TO SELECT EXPERTS IN DIFFERENT THEMATIC AREAS IN LINE WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF C4T INCLUDING:

• Energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions;

• Renewable energy;

• Adaptation to climate change;

• Water and sustainable water management;

• Circular economy and resource efficient economy;

• Protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure;

• Technical assistance (governance of sustainability transitions, identification and development of projects adapted to the reality of the territories).

• Furthermore, experts will contribute to the development of new project ideas, such as innovative solutions for the energy transition, and support the implementation of projects on energy transition, adaptation to climate change, circular economy, sustainable management of water resources and protection of biodiversity .

SUPPORTING THE RECOVERY AND BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION OF LIGHTING & FORNITURE SMEs FOR THE EUROPE INDUSTRY OF TOMORROW (SILEO): ha lanciato la “Call for Business Digital Transformation Projects”, con Scadenza il 25 Marzo 2024.

WITHIN THE NEXT GENERATION INTERNET INITIATIVE (NGI) OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION: the NGI TALER Project has launched the first Call.

NGI TALER IS A PILOT PROJECT FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION AND THE SWISS CONFEDERATION WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF LAUNCHING A NEW ELECTRONIC PAYMENT SYSTEM FOR THE BENEFIT OF EVERYONE: citizens, traders, banks, financial authorities, auditors and anti-corruption researchers.

FOLLOWING AN INITIAL INVESTMENT IN THE TWO-YEAR PERIOD 2018-2020 > SUPPORTING MORE THAN 1,000 iINTERNET RESEARCHERS AND INNOVATORS IN HUNDREDS OF PROJECTS: the European Union has renewed funding for the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, from Horizon Europe.

NGI > PROVIDES FINANCING FOR AN ECOSYSTEM TO INNOVATORS WITH THE MOST PROMISING PROJECT IDEAS: it is divided into specific actions that contribute to the logic and general vision of the initiative, also offering tutoring and support to the innovators' path, starting from development of the innovative idea.

THE PLANNED ACTIONS ARE:

NGI RRESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTIONS: in the period 2022-2027. 20% of the budget is dedicated to selection, monitoring, tutoring, training and community building, while 80% is dedicated to financing individual projects between individuals and/or third-party organizations (cascade funding)

NGI PILOT - INNOVATION ACTIONS: in the period 2024-2027. In these actions, open calls will be proposed to finance third parties

NGI COORDINATION SUPPORT ACTIONS: which guarantee synergies between all stakeholders with particular attention to: Awareness raising activities, community creation, business acceleration
